Intaglio rings (like a cameo but carved into the stone instead of out of it) were all the rage in the 1940's and 1950's, part of the Victorian revival that was responsible for the return of fashions from the 1800s.

This ring is part of that revival period, but the image it portrays is much older: A an ancient Roman or Greek warrior wearing a toga and a dragon capped helmet!
